Dear Diary,
Back to some light-hearted content, I want to read and finish a novel. I’ve been wanting to read this book, “The Echo Wife” by Sarah Gailey. I recently borrowed it from the SFU library and only read a couple pages of it so far. I used to be the type of kid that would barely read but I enjoyed reading just felt that there were other things I could be doing instead.
Random related story of myself: I was in grade 10 and my teacher told the class to write a short story and so I did. The night before it was due, I pasted my completed work into grammarly to fix any grammar mistakes. On the bottom of the page, grammarly said my writing level was the same as a student in 6th grade. But grammarly wasn’t wrong, I know I didn’t read that much. The only time I read frequently was in grade 5 and 6 because I remember enjoying a book series, which made sense. It humbled me, I learned my writing did not improve as much within those years.
The echo wife – Sarah Gailey
“I’m embarrassed, still, by how long it took me to notice. Everything was right there in the open, right there in front of me, but it still took me so long to see the person I had married.
It took me so long to hate him.
Martine is a genetically cloned replica made from Evelyn Caldwell’s award-winning research. She’s patient and gentle and obedient. She’s everything Evelyn swore she’d never be.
And she’s having an affair with Evelyn’s husband.
Now, the cheating bastard is dead, and both Caldwell wives have a mess to clean up.
Good thing Evelyn Caldwell is used to getting her hands dirty.”
I don’t want to say any spoilers just in case because when I read the passage above from the back of the book, I just knew I wanted to read this. I’m on Chapter 10 and the book is starting to get interesting. The beginning of the book was a little slow and confusing but everything is becoming clearer and I’m hooked now. I haven’t completed the book yet but I plan to finish it soon. Every now and then I like to pick the book up and immerse myself into the story.
My Experience
This was a good first challenge for me, I’ve been wanting to read books and made me want to start borrowing more books. I’m glad this was a good book, a positive experience that will help me and subconsciously make me start writing like a University student. I find reading books is very calming and helps me think more creatively. Each reading session made me feel better than when compared to being on my phone.
I found an article about how reading helps with mindfulness. This article also helped me to understand the calmness I feel after reading. When I engage myself in reading it helps us to practice mindfulness by being fully present in the moment by being fully absorbed in the story. When reading it helps with self-reflection and introspection by offering a chance to go into our thoughts and emotions. And we gain valuable insights about ourselves and the world.
This made me really think about how I use my time to go pick my phone over a good book. I should really read more often.
